Edgar has reached his fundraising goal on HandUp!

1 person helped Edgar raise $20

Why I'm using HandUp for my basic needs.

My goal is to start a nonprofit organization dedicated to the well being and welfare of injured animals. No one should have to put their pet down or refuse treatment because of their inability to pay.

About me.

I have been homeless in the Corvallis for about four years, but I have lived in the area, off and on for about 15 years. I have held a variety of jobs, including construction and contracting jobs, as well as owning a number of my own businesses-- including designing, building, and running a mini-golf course!

I enjoy getting outside, riding my bike, reading, and listening to "oldies." I enjoy getting out in the community and meeting all the interesting people that are out there; everyone has a story to tell, and I want to hear every one of them!

My backstory.

The short version is that I was driving without insurance, which cascaded into losing my license because (despite knowing better) I continued to drive without either a license or insurance. My own poor choices have landed me here, and it has taken some time to come to terms with that.

I am now clean and sober and trying to pick the pieces of my life back up and am very humbly asking for help doing so. As a Veteran, it is hard to admit that I need a hand up, but I do, and I thank you.

My goals, moving forward.

I am working toward starting a nonprofit organization focused on helping animals and their "people" when they're in a crisis situation. I don't believe that anyone should have to make a choice based on monetary limitations. Critters in Crisis is the working name for this organization, and the mission is "To provide proper veterinary care regardless of the person's ability to pay."

My service animal was my life line, and I miss him terribly. I am grateful that I was never faced with a decision to treat or not, and I would like to offer other pets and their people the same opportunity.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I once directed a play at a local church. I had no real experience beyond my high school drama class, but I gave it my all. At the end of the performance there wasn't a dry eye in the house. This was one of my proudest moments.

I have come a long way and done many diverse things in my life-- some good, some... not so good. I know that I have much more to give to my community. With the 62 years of experience and knowledge, I am now eager and able to pay it forward.
