I am raising money to furnish my new home. I have recently moved from shelter to housing and would really appreciate any help I could get!
I grew up in Detroit where I attended high school and became a certified nursing assistant. I later moved to Boulder, CO where I attended Colorado Northwestern Community College as a non-traditional adult student. I was a human services major there and also performed as a work-study receptionist hired for my excellent "work ethic" and "commitment to the welfare of the students." I was accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. As a photo editor and reporter for the college newspaper, I wrote human interest stories.
While living in Colorado, I was in a domestic violence situation. I felt I needed to put some distance myself and my abuser so I moved back home to Detroit after 14 years in this unhealthy relationship. Both of my parents are deceased; I never married or had children. I found shelter with South Oakland Shelter (SOS) where I have been living since August.
I have currently been approved for an apartment that I like. Now I am just in need of fundraising for my security deposit. My goal is to raise funds so that I am able to move into my new home soon.
I appreciate donations of any amount. All funds are helpful. When I first came to SOS, I was interviewed by Channel 2 News. You can learn more about my story from this interview that aired in August. (http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/local-news/185790534-story)
