Why I'm using HandUp for utilities.

Hi everyone, I should have my social security income soon but until then I am still without income. I still want to make sure I keep the lights on for me and my daughter. Thank you so much.

About me.

I was born and raised in the Oakland County area. I began working very young, as did many of my family members. My mother worked for the Board of Education when I was growing up and was able to get me a job. I worked for the Board of Education for a long time but I was unexpectedly let go.

My backstory.

I was laid off from my job, and was unable to receive any support or understanding from my previous landlord, so I had to leave the place I called home. I am still unable to secure employment, or receive any income assistance. I appreciated the help from the homeless shelter to get me to where I am at. I have my Section 8 voucher in hand and it appears things may get better for me and my daughter. I wouldn't trade being a single father for anything. I just want to do what's best for her. However, this electricity bill is hard to keep up with.

My goals, moving forward.

Now that I've found affordable housing my primary goal is to find a good job to bring in some income for myself and my daughter. At least once that happens, I can keep up with the electricity bill.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

My daughter is my world. I am so proud of her. She is back in school this year, and is really smart. I only hope I can continue to light up her world like she does mine by keeping up with the electricity.
