Families can wait as long as 11 months for a six-month stay in one of San Francisco's homeless family shelters. The stresses of being homeless is especially hard for the children. Not knowing where or if they'll have a place to sleep at night, the loss of their toys and other belongings and trying to keep up in school are only a few of the challenges they face each day.

Families who are residents of Compass Family Shelter are given clean rooms, private baths, family therapy and other support to help them get back on their feet and on a path to stable housing.

During their stay at our shelter, we work very hard to build the confidence in every child, and help them to feel free to dream about a wonderful future.

About Camp Compass:

Compass Family Services provides a yearly summer camp experience, filled with enriched summer activities for 20 youth, ages 6-14, who are living in our family shelter or are engaged in other Compass programs.

Camp Compass includes a broad range of educational, recreational and cultural opportunities that are designed to be fun, as well as expose the children to enriching activities they would not otherwise have experience.

Camp Compass strives to provide our youth with the same experiences as peers who are not struggling with severe poverty or homelessness. Camp activities include trips to the local parks, arts and crafts, and field trips to local museums and a host of other attractions.

Last year our campers went rock wall climbing, got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Aquarium of the Bay, learned to use tools at Berkeley Adventure Playground, and enjoyed trips to the San Francisco Zoo and Exploratorium.

This year camp will run June 6th through July 27th.
