About this Campaign

We have a mental health problem.

San Francisco is one of the most affluent cities in the world. A hub for technology and innovation, it's also home to one of the most visible and intractable homeless problems. According to the 2015 Homeless Survey there are 7,500 people experiencing homelessness in San Francisco - of them:

  • 35% suffer from Psychiatric or Emotional Conditions, 27% PTSD, and 37% Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
  • Among the chronically homeless those numbers jump - 55% experience Psychiatric or Emotional Conditions, and 35% PTSD.

Despite the disproportionate levels of mental illness on our streets, everyday citizens lack the tools to effectively respond and participate in their community. This problem is not unique to San Francisco. Institutional responses - to call the police, or just ignore - often perpetuate the crisis.

Concrn believes that with crisis comes opportunity for healing. We are not helpless. Be a part of our pilot program and help us change the model for responding to crises in our own neighborhoods.

Concrn is a compassionate social service network that provides crisis response, street outreach, and case management for neighbors in need challenged by homelessness, mental illness, and substance use.

Download our iPhone or Android app, or call us directly at 415-801-3737, to report a crisis.

Our Compassionate Response approach sends teams of trained responders to de-escalate crises and connect neighbors to mental health, physical health, shelter and housing resources - offering a humane, harm reducing, and cost-effective alternative to 911 and law enforcement intervention.

Our approach isn't just about immediate connection. It's about lasting relationships. Uniting art, music, and creativity with an advocacy-based, social service approach, we build safety and rapport, promote long-term self-efficacy, and cultivate a strong, vibrant community - where our neighbors have the resources to care for themselves and each other.

We believe that every person deserves compassion, dignity, and respect.

We believe that every crisis is an opportunity for healing and human connection.

We believe that compassion is a pathway to healing.

So, join us. Help us cultivate a more compassionate, connected community.

Your support will fund responder and community trainings, street outreach, response, case management, and critical operational support - helping us scale our impact in the Tenderloin, so we can expand our model to serve our neighbors in the Mission, SOMA, and other neighborhoods in the Bay Area and beyond.

Latest Campaign Update
You're Invited! May 9th Concrn Fundraiser & Community Party + 2017 Updates
April 28, 2017 at 1:15 PM

Thanks so much for your continued support! We are excited to give you some of our latest updates.

First, we would love for you to join us at our upcoming fundraiser and community party on Tuesday, May 9th 5:30 PM at The Hall @ 1028 Market Street! We will share our upcoming plans for the future and introduce new team members (proceeds from the bar support our mission). To help us celebrate our community with major style the night will feature the Tenderloin's own MJ's Brass Band. "Attending an MJ’s Brass Boppers shows is the next best thing to following a brass band down New Orleans’ famed Claiborne Ave." - Stern Grove (SF).

Secondly, our new community workforce strategy is off to a great start. With your support from our campaign and through a small grant from the Pollination Project to provide four paid training fellowships to residents of the Tenderloin. Our first two fellows, Bettina Mateo and Alex Canada, have both completed their five-week compassionate street responder training. Both of them have been amazing additions to the Concrn operations team, de-escalating crises and connecting people to crucial services.

FInally, we spent an entire weekend with a team of volunteers from Datakind, a talented group of data scientists who dove into our mobile app crisis report data for the last two years. It was the first time we were able to work with experts to measure our impact through solid metrics. The results were incredible! We gained invaluable insights into the effectiveness of our theory of intervention, how we can improve our operations to provide better services to our clients, and tools to demonstrate quantifiable outcomes to our supporters. Join us on May 9th to see the results of the Data Dive!

Again, we wouldn't be able to pursue our goal of providing our compassionate alternative to 911 for mental health crises without your support.

Sincerely, Concrn Team
