About this Campaign

As COVID-19 continues to spread, the future has never felt so unpredictable. These are challenging times for us all, and we hope you’re in good spirits and healthy. Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency is doing everything possible to sustain daily operations and provide services to our community. We would not have been able to make a positive impact on these lives without your help. Thank you for investing in your community, and the people you share it with.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people together. Recently, a community member employed by an airline who was laid off during these difficult times received help through NMCAA’s CARES program.

Here are his words of gratitude:

"Thank you for helping make a difficult situation seem more manageable. It was actually nice to talk to someone about my situation and help sort it out. A dear friend always said to me be thankful for what you have and not sad or upset about things you don’t. I am fortunate because I have credit cards and loans that I have been using to pay my bills. However, those sources are running out and I will have no way to pay them back until the airlines call me back. Hopefully, that will be soon…Nevertheless, I have shelter for now and some food and am doing my best to make do with what I have. Thank you for helping with the electric bill. Other than my phone it is one of my largest recurring expenses."

Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Contributions to Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency are 100% tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Did you know the Federal Coronavirus Tax Relief Bill allows taxpayers to claim up to $300 of charitable contributions as a tax deduction on their 2020 taxes even if they are not itemizing? This is known as an “above-the-line deduction”, which means the donation is deducted from your taxable income before it is taxed. The bill also lifts the existing cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, raising it from 60% of adjusted gross income to 100%. For corporations, the law raises the annual limit from 10% to 25%.
