Job Training & Housing for SF Youth raised $74,380 on HandUp!
Since 2014, Taking It To the Streets ("T2S") has helped over 60 youth ages 18-35 get off the streets, get jobs, get homes, and live independently. In the past year our program has tripled in size, with more and more motivated young adults asking to join the program than we can currently support.
We've successfully increased our funding for next year, but our growth this year is leaving us in a pinch until that money comes in. We are asking for your support to bridge a short-term funding gap to continue providing housing, mentoring, and job skills training for 35+ young adults in our Sweepers Program. Your support right now will help keep these kids off San Francisco's streets.
Our Campaign:
We are seeking to raise $30,000 in July. Google.org has pledged to match the first $10,000 raised through this campaign dollar-for-dollar -- so please give what you can knowing your impact will be DOUBLED for these kids!
Our Program:
The program's idea is simple. Our participants demonstrate a commitment to themselves and to their community five days a week by cleaning up the streets, providing graffiti abatement, and maintaining the neighborhood "PitStop". In exchange, T2S provides them with safe housing, job skills training, communication skill development, mentorship, goal setting, and life coaching. They also receive shift meals and a small monthly stipend for personal supplies and groceries.
Our Impact:
Since we started in 2014, the sense of community well-being has grown in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood. The relationships between the merchants and the street kid community has entirely changed for the better. In just two short years, we've supported 60 kids to get themselves off the streets permanently. Right now we need your support to keep us continue to improve the community and the lives of these homeless youth. ANY amount helps.
Our current supporters:
We are grateful to have the support of San Francisco's Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor London Breed (President of the Board of Supervisors), the Department of Public Works, as well as corporate sponsorship from AirBnB, the Super Bowl Legacy Committee, and AT&T.
Taking It To The Streets is a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization and your contribution is fully tax-deductible.
Here are some of what our supporters have to say:
"I feel that this program has been the best thing to happen in the Upper Haight in the 8 years I have been here." -Haight Street Merchant
"Taking it To the Streets has been a great addition to the Haight Street community. Their brightly vested clients keep Haight Street cleaner. Additionally they are housing 35 people who formerly were living in the neighborhood." -Haight Street Merchant
We want to give a big thanks to you, and also to a few of our private donors who helped us far exceed our original goal. In the last week of our fundraiser, we still have over $3,600 of Google.org matching funds. So please reach into your wallet/pocket/venmo account help us reach our new goal of $80,000! <3 <3 <3
