Families experiencing homelessness often have to leave most of their belongings behind as they move from place to place or stay at a shelter. That said, when they are ready to move into permanent housing, suddenly they need an entire household of items. It's expensive to purchase everything, even if you're shopping at the local thrift store. Therefore, having sheets and towels, pots and pans, dishes and silverware, all make for a smoother transition and a warm home environment. Families can more quickly settle and spend their limited income on other critical items. We are helping 100 families move into their own place in the next 2 months and need your help to transform that house into a home.

In April 2015, our First Avenues program helped a family from San Francisco that had lost everything they owned in a fire find a new home. This family heard about Hamilton through our innovative partnership with the local school district. The family was able to buy pots, pans and dinnerware thanks to the move-in funds that were available.
“Providing household goods for my family at the time of moving into my new home was such a relief! I was excited that Hamilton was able to provide this extra touch. I am grateful because I didn't have the extra money to buy basic household items!” – mother of 2
