I'm using HandUp to raise funds toward my utility bill. I am employed but my monthly expenses can still be burdensome. Any support is truly appreciated
I am from Detroit, MI and I have lived there pretty much my whole life up until now. Until recently, I was employed for with the Big 3 and thoroughly enjoyed my work. On my way home from work, I was robbed at gunpoint and was seriously injured which led to my homelessness. Since then, I was able to obtain housing through the help of SOS and connecting to other resources. I am currently living in a one bedroom apartment and have been working toward more stable employment.
I was working 60+ hours a week in a job I loved until I was violently robbed. I've been working hard to recover from those injuries, participating in physical therapy twice a week and working out 2-3 times a day. Originally the doctors told me it would take 4-6 months for me to walk again, and I was able to accomplish this goal in 2 months!
My short term goals moving forward include: Obtaining stable employment so that I can fully support myself.
My long term goals include: Finishing school and having a family and supporting my family.
It makes me happy to know that I was able to overcome my challenges even more quickly than was expected!
My dream is having a family and taking care of that family on top of earning my degree from a legitimate university just to be able to inspire others and share my story to literally say, "It was a long road, but I successfully made it."
