Why I'm using HandUp for my license reinstatement.

I'm using HandUp due to my current financial hardships, and I'm unable to afford my license reinstatement fee. It is important that I have the ability to transport my son to his appointments.

About me.

I currently live in Pontiac, and have lived here and several other communities in the area.

I have worked to obtain a certificate from Women in Engineering, Health and Nutrition, and have also completed a CNA program.

I have a son who has been diagnosed with NF1 (Neurofibromatosis Type 1), which is a condition where the affected individual grows tumors along nerves of the brain and skin. He has many doctor's appointments that I need to take him to on a regular basis. He has been hospitalized for long periods of time before and it is extremely scary. I have had multiple jobs the past few years due to my obligations in caring for my special needs son. Because of that I frequently have had to call in to work. This has made it difficult to maintain consistent employment. I have six other children all under the age of 13. I love my children very much, they keep me going.

My backstory.

Needing to be so involved in my son's medical care has contributed to some of our financial struggles. My son is seizure prone so it is difficult to find others who are willing to watch him while I am away at work. He has also been hospitalized several times throughout his life, and whenever this happens I want to be present with him as much as possible because he is non-verbal, and I need to be present to make sure he is getting the care he needs

My goals, moving forward.

My current goals are to work through some scheduling issues with my son's in-home nursing care, and then pursue employment again. I'm also focused on trying to get my license reinstated so that I can more easily make it to work and transport my son to his medical appointments.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

Going back to school has been the proudest moment for me. It wasn't an easy decision, but I know in the long run it will be the best thing I can do for my children.
