Why I'm using HandUp for basic needs and utilities.

I am a single mother of two small children. My son is Autistic. I was working so I could ensure my kids had their basic needs met, but I became sick. I was in the hospital for a while so I lost my job. Now my car is in need of repair, and I don't have daycare for my children. I could really use some help getting basic household items and paying my utilities so our gas and electric aren't shut-off. We would be very grateful for any help provided. Thank you.

About me.

I've lived in Detroit all my life except for the last couple years when I moved to Oakland County. I was in foster care as a child and was later adopted. Unfortunately, I don't have many family supports. My main focus right now is caring for my two year old son and my one year old daughter. I have been looking for a job because I want to be able to provide for my children. .

My backstory.

I didn't have much family support growing up and have been in and out of shelters in Detroit ever since I turned 18. I have some medical conditions that make it harder for me to keep a job, but I try to work when I can. I had a part time job while I was pregnant with my son but had to take a leave of absence when he was born. Not having an income has made it hard for me to maintain my house and make all of my scheduled appointments.

My goals, moving forward.

I'm working towards becoming more independent. I want to create a positive life for my children and create a more positive environment for all of us. I want to be the best mother that I can be.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

My son and daughter are my world! They have brought me so much happiness and taught me a lot about myself. I'm very proud to be their mom!
