I'm fundraising with HandUp to get my license reinstated so that I can increase my mobility
I was born in Detroit and grew up in Warren. After finishing high school I moved around a lot. I was a truck driver for many years and that was my most recent job. Unfortunately I recently lost my father to cancer.
I lost my driver's license in 2015 and that in turn caused me to lose my truck driving job. Things spiraled out of control after I lost my job and I haven't been able to get my footing since then. I've pretty much been homeless since 2015. I spent some time down south and was able to live outside for a while, but I eventually came back to Michigan for family reasons. My health issues and chronic pain makes it difficult to work, but I've been doing what I can to stay alive.
I sought help from South Oakland Shelter and with their assistance I was able to locate a unit and move in recently. I'm very excited to start making progress and that's a lot easier when you have a stable place to stay each night!
My biggest goal moving forward is to get my drivers license back. I really want to be a truck driver again. I'm hoping to locate a source of income and save up for a car. I have not had reliable transportation since 2012 . I'm also focusing on improving my health so I can enjoy a better quality of life.
I really enjoy music and being outdoors and camping. I enjoy playing the guitar, drums, harmonica and piano, I also write music from time to time. I have seen most of our county and would love to travel again more often.
