About me.

I am the mother of three amazing, healthy, and smart children who I love so much. We recently moved back to the city of Detroit after experiencing homelessness, we were able to work our way back into successful housing and settle into our new home. Since being successful in this, I've worked on a number of goals and have been able to find more success. I was able to reinstate my drivers license, I've continued attending my college courses, and I'm steadily working on my dream of the past two years of becoming Detroit's newest food entrepreneur. Most recently I was working at a new restaurant in Detroit, but after being laid-off due to Covid-19 I know I have to continue to keep the income coming in to provide for my children and continue with my upward trajectory.

My backstory.

During a hard financial time, I had to let my car insurance and registration lapse in order to keep up with rent and my utilities. Eventually, I was pulled over on my way to work and got a few tickets I couldn’t pay off. I was in a catch-22 situation where I needed to work, but I couldn’t drive all the way to certain employment opportunities that paid a living wage without risking legal trouble and more fines. This situation led to a domino effect where I got behind on my bills and eventually lost my housing. I was trying so hard, but it seemed like it was impossible to get back ahead. Since then, I’ve worked with different community resources and my own strengths to enter into housing again and continue pursuing my goals.

My goals, moving forward.

Next to come after being able to successfully find my home and get my license back, I would like to start my own food truck/trailer. I’m working with some community resources to plan and secure funding for a trailer and know that this is something I can be successful at. I hope that building my small business will help me increase my income and see that I’m able to plan my schedule around my children.

My goal in life is to give my children a better life and I know I'm going to get there.
