Why I'm using HandUp for furniture.

My family and moved from a homeless shelter into a house of our own with the help of a housing subsidy. We are so thankful and happy to be in our new home. We still need basic furniture items, such as bunk beds for our 5 young children, a changing table, a kitchen table and chairs, a sofa, coffee table and dressers. We have very limited income which has to go towards keeping the lights and gas on in our home. It would be such a relief to see our children sleeping peacefully in their own beds at night, having a dresser for their clothes, or being able to sit comfortably on a sofa. We are asking for help to make our house into a home.

About me.

I'm from Detroit and have lived here for most of my life. My mother died when I was young. I love to spend as much time as possible with my five beautiful children. We love to take trips to the park or watch movies together as a family. I've worked in manufactoring, food service and hospitality in the past. I'm interested in furthering my education so that I can work as a CNA and better provide for my family.

My backstory.

I've faced challenges trying to raise my five children while making enough money through employment to keep a roof over our heads. I've lost jobs in the past because I did not have reliable transportation or child care. For years we jumped from house to house, staying with whatever friends or family would allow us to stay for the night. There was a period of time while I was pregnant and had to sleep outside. After a stay in a shelter, we were blessed to receive a rental subsidy and found a house that is the perfect size for our family.

My goals, moving forward.

I plan to keep raising my kids and hope to start attending school so that I can provide them with all the opportunities in the world. I want to start taking classes to become a CNA so I can care for people who need help

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I'm proud that I made it this far in my life after all the challenges I've face. I'm proud to rent my first house to to be under one roof as a family.
