My name is Alessandra. I'm about to be two years old. I live with my mom and my two brothers in San Francisco, where I was born. Christian and Marius, my brothers, are 11 and 10. They love to play all kinds of sports. Soccer, football, basketball and more. Me, I love to play with them too, especially when they chase me. It's the most fun when Mom can play with us too.
I spent my first birthday in a homeless shelter, and ever since then we have been struggling to make ends meet. Even before that, my mom was having a hard time affording the rent for all of us, which is why she has to pay back-rent for out last home. Now we are in a home again, but with the cash assistance my mom does get, it's not enough to pay rent, back-rent, utilities and the other things we need at the beginning of a new school year like clothes and shoes. One of the bigger, but very important expenses, are my diapers. My mom and I are working on getting trained so I won't need the diapers anymore, but it's a work in progress.
UPDATE: My mom is facing an eviction and we are hoping to find donors who can help us pay the back-rent we need to settle our eviction out of Court at a Settlement Conference on 1/21. We are forever grateful to anyone who can help us during this difficult time.
Me and my brothers are all in school right now, which is going to be a big help to my mom because she is looking for a new full-time job. She has had her hands full with us and her part-time work over the summer, but we're hoping she will find something soon. She is also going to start training in a program that will help her find a job where she can really use her skills.
I am a blessed child because I am the little one. I have two big brothers who have a tough job looking out for me, and a mom who loves us dearly.
