Verified by Lighthouse.
I'm originally from Ferndale, and I stayed in Oakland county for most of my life before moving to Detroit. Currently I'm living in Farmington Hills in a new home with my family. My proudest moment was exiting homelessness into my own home where my kids have their own rooms and space to grow. Before my housing crisis, I had started going to school for Child Psychology and really want to go back to finish my degree. I have a brother who is autistic, and it has always been a dream of mine to be able to serve and help families who need additional support, but for now it's my family who is in need of assistance.
I got connected to the Lighthouse because I was involved in a domestic violence relationship with my oldest child's father. I knew the best thing for me and my children was to reach out to resources and build a better life away from that situation. Since then, I've experienced homelessness and housing insecurity but we've worked hard to build the best path for us forward. It's been hard to balance childcare without family support, but I'm trying to find consistency so I'm able to find regular employment and don't have to worry about having to call off because of a lack of childcare.
I would like to go back to school and put my make sure my kids can have a great school and daycare for when I'm away. With the daycare, I can work and use the skills I have to move up and make a higher wage. I want to go back to school to finish my degree. I know I can do this for me and my family.
My proudest moment was exiting homelessness into my own home where each of the kids have their own room. They love having a place of their own to call home, and I'm so happy to just see them enjoy life.
