I'm working hard to stay housed with limited income and I continue making progress. Recently, I experienced some unexpected changes and could use some help to keep my utilities on while I work things out.
I was born and raised in Detroit, first the East side, then I moved to the West side at 18. For the past 11 years, I worked as a security guard, but health issues put an end to my work life. I spend most of my time at SOS and my church.
I used to have my own apartment, but I couldn't afford it after I lost my job. On September 3, 2015 I had to move into a shelter. My car broke down soon after and I couldn't make it to work in Warren so I had to quit my job. Then in December/January, I started experiencing numerous health issues and spent a lot of time in the hospital. SOS took me in and here I am.
Right now, I'm working on getting SSI/SSDI so I'd be able to get my own place. I'm looking at housing opportunities in Oakland County on the Internet at SOS. Hopefully I'll be able to find something affordable because I don't want to be homeless anymore.
I'm raising money for application fees so I can find stable housing.
I'm raising money for new spark plugs and other repairs so I can attend doctors appointments and get groceries.
I'm raising money for basic needs.
