I'm raising money for a laptop so I can go back to school.

Why I'm using HandUp for a laptop.

I have been wanting to go back to school for a long time. I have tried to save money so I can purchase a laptop for school, but living on a very fixed income makes it difficult. Between taking care of my children and paying for household needs and utilities, there is never anything left. I know that if I want to improve things for my children, I need to go back to school. I am fundraising to purchase a laptop so I can enroll in school and better my family's lives.

About me.

I've spent most of my life in the Detroit area and have spent the last few years primarily in Pontiac. I have five school aged children. I'm currently in a housing program through South Oakland Shelter that has allowed me to get back on my feet and begin to work on goals I've set for myself. I recently completed my GED through an online program.

My backstory.

I had been homeless off and on for over 5 years. I didn't like being homeless, especially with my children. I didn't want to subject my children to certain environments, so I would often have them stay with family members to keep them safe. I've struggled with some addictions in the past, but I am proud to say that I am now clean and sober and have realized that I'm stronger than my addictions. I've been clean and sober for almost a year and a half!

My goals, moving forward.

I'd like to go to cosmetology school. It is something I have always been interested in and have been good at. Having my cosmetology license would really help me find a job that would provide stable income for my family.

I'm also working on regaining full custody of the children that haven't been living with me full-time. My family sees the progress I've made and wants to have the kids come live with me again. I would love to have my family all back together again under one roof.

Another goal I have is to get my driver's license back. I had outstanding tickets I wasn't able to pay so my license was suspended. Having my license again would give me an opportunity to have transportation which is important when you have 5 children.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I enjoy doing nails for myself, friends, and family. I've taught myself this skill and I'm working on perfecting this skill.
