I'm raising money for basic needs so I can afford the basics and maintain my housing.

Why I'm using HandUp for my basic needs.

My goal is the same as it has been. My entire life, I've worked hard and have been self sufficient. I am a disabled American Navy Veteran and I am fundraising for food, clothing and schoolbooks.

About me.

My name is David and I was born and raised in SF, I am a Navy Veteran who proudly served this country. I lost my job as a machinist - working for the Bethlehem Steel Corp/Triple A Shipyard Westwinds/BAE Systems at Pier 70. I've worked on navy ships, oil tankers, cargo ships, and coast guard cutter.

My backstory.

My father was a Navy veteran on a ship in World War 2. His ship was bombed but he survived. My parents threw me out when I was a teenager and I lived on the streets.

I had a serious accident and broke both of my legs. I ended up in the SF General Hospital ICV 21 years ago for four months. I have difficulty walking, since being disabled I've stayed at every shelter in San Francisco. After years of homelessness I am finally housed but now I'm having difficulty affording basics, such as food and clothing.

My goals, moving forward.

Continue to maintain housing, go to meetings to keep me grounded. I am doing my own physical therapy by walking a mile a day. I love music and have been that way since I was a little boy.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I love music and have been that way since I was a little boy. My proudest moment is when I was making 200 dollars a day, when I was very active, I miss those days.
