I'm using HandUp to raise funds for a security deposit to enter into a new home near my family. From the generosity of the community, I was able to pay off my water arrears in order to move forward with this new housing opportunity. Now, the last step is to pay a security deposit and sign a lease. I'm feeling so grateful for this opportunity and know that I'll be able to be successful moving forward with my housing and employment goals starting from this new foundation. It's been a long journey for me and the kids, but I know we can get through this together.
I was born and raised in Detroit. I have a daughter who is coming up on 1 year who is my world. I love to read, listen to music, and write.
After the birth of my daughter, I had gone back to work after getting a clearance from my doctor and things were going well. However, when the pandemic hit and I was laid off life had become a little more difficult trying to balance finances, childcare, and the uncertainty of when things would get back to normal. Right now my goal has been to move closer to family and my support system that can assist with childcare and to re-enter the workforce in a living wage position.
I would eventually I would like to go back to college and further my education so I can create a better life for my child. Everything I do is for her.
My proudest moment was giving birth to my daughter. It was an extremely tough pregnancy--I experienced domestic violence, homelessness, and moved from shelter to shelter. But I have tried so hard to stay positive and I know everything will be worth it.
