Why I'm using HandUp for a security deposit.

Right now, my partner and I have a lease renewal coming up in April, and we know that our landlord is intending on raising our rent by about $150 or $200 which will be unaffordable and unsustainable for us. For this reason, we are getting connected to HandUp to reach out for assistance to be successful in moving to another apartment, downgrading from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom, that will be more affordable.

About me.

My partner and I have lived in Pontiac for the last few years. I am currently in remission after being treated for cancer and am counting my blessings in this regard. I have other health concerns and deal with what I like to call 'chemo brain,' but this doesn't prevent me from my constant goal to enjoy life and spend quality time with my family. We have lived in this apartment for the last few years and have been living on a fixed income. Right now, we have a lease renewal coming up, and we know that our landlord is intending on raising on rent to a rate that we won't be able to afford. For this reason, we are getting connected to HandUp to reach out for assistance to be successful in moving to another apartment, downgrading from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom, that will be more affordable.

My backstory.

We got connected to this program after seeking assistance during the pandemic. We had a rental check lost in the mail, and our property manager charged us late fees that we couldn't afford. We got assistance to avoid a housing emergency because of this situation, but now we know that we need to move before our current lease is up.

My goals, moving forward.

Our main goals are to take care of our health, to take care of ourselves and our family, and to move to an apartment in a safe area that we can afford. We really just want the basics and to be able to not worry about not being able to pay our rent or keep up with our utility bills.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

The happiest part of our lives is to be with each other and to connect to our family. The pandemic has made things a little more difficult, but we know we can get through this if we stick together.
