I'm using HandUp because it has the reputation of assisting those in need in a positive way. Any amount of assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to build my life on the principle of giving back and want to put myself in the position of helping others as I have been helped.
I am a lifelong resident of Detroit and I was a professional painter for 16 years until an accident forced me to stop working. I am the father of 9 children whom I consider all successful but i have too much self pride to let them know my situation and felt that the less they know, the better. I enjoy sports, fishing, and doing outdoor activities.
After an accident caused me to stop working, depression set in causing me to disconnect from people and have a sense of hopelessness> I became homeless in 2014 because of it and turned to negative behaviors. I got connected to an agency which housed me. That same year the agency's house burned down and I found myself homeless again. I lived in an abandoned house from 2014 until 2019 where i was finally able and ready to re connect with society and seek help in getting out of my homelessness.
I am working on a commitment to complete community service and afterwards I want to complete training to obtain my CDL license. I want to put myself in the position of being able to help others.
What would make me the happiest is to be able to come out of this experience and be able to help others not go through it or help them navigate through it.
I'm raising money for necessary household items so I can stay Covid free and remain healthy.
I'm raising money for a bed so I can sleep comfortably.
I'm raising money for minutes for my phone so I can keep up with my appointments.
