I am currently in a shelter (Mariners Inn) and have been for approximately 14 months. I hope to move into an apartment in the coming months.
I have lived in Detroit all of my life, 58 years, just short of my 59th birthday. I have recently experienced congestive heart failure and now I'm on SSI and can only work part-time.
In 1978, I graduated from Austin Catholic Prep, where I excelled in football and baseball. I went to work for Pepsi-Cola for 12 years, until the plant closed in the fall of 1990. During that time, I was fortunate to start a small family business (grocery store) which later failed, due to neighborhood deterioration and loss of market share. At this time, I experienced depression. I got myself together, went to driving school, and became a motor-coach operator with Greyhound Lines, Inc., until my health would not allow me to continue.
I plan on strengthening my heart and living with dignity from here on.
I love people, the outdoors, traveling and the highways. My proudest moment was becoming a Greyhound driver and seeing this beautiful country.
I'm raising money for tools so I can service consumers, as a car mechanic.
I'm raising money for Hotel and travel expenses so I can locate a unit to use my voucher.
I'm raising money for bus fare back home so I can go to Sault Ste Marie to stay with family and end my homelessness.
