I’m using HandUp to raise funds for education costs, specifically a three month Phlebotomy Course. I am currently living on a limited income, but in the long run this will not sustain my family and I feel taking this class will give me a marketable skill and ultimately enable me to provide for myself and three children and achieve the goal of true self sufficiency.
I am a single father and melanoma cancer survivor who is no longer able to work in the construction field due to health issues. I would like to be retrained and move into the medical field to help others with medical conditions since I myself have experienced the stress and uncertainty in dealing with cancer and it's complications. It is also important to me that my children understand the value of education and are proud that their father chose an educational path leading to employment. I spend my time with three busy young children making sure their needs are met.
I was born and raised in the Central Valley and after a divorce moved to Alameda County 4 years ago for employment and a fresh start. Unfortunately I found then lost my job due to increasingly severe health issues and became homeless as a result of no income. At the same time my children’s mother was struggling herself and I became the sole guardian of my three young children. Simultaneously I was fortunate to be accepted into a permanent supportive housing program where my children and I are stable and safe. I was then diagnosed with cancer and entered treatment.
Now that I am getting my health back I would like to further my education and gain a degree in the medical field while assuring a happy life for my children.
I love my children and love spending time with them. I would like to provide them with a secure future and have dreams of buying a home for the four of us some day. I can't wait to get started on a career in the medical field for personal satisfaction and increased income.
I'm raising money for a cross country Amtrack rail trip so I can celebrate my son's college graduation in May 2018, visit my brother recovering from a stroke and his family, spend some time in my hometown, and also visit some seminaries as I am working to return to college to study theology to prepare to be a chaplain.
I'm raising money for household items so I can furnish my home.
I'm raising money for bus fares so I can easily get to places and appointments.
