I need a tune-up because I don’t have an engine in my truck right now. I also need spark plug wires and a pack of 8 spark plugs. Having the truck running right is important so I can get to my mental health appointments, go grocery shopping, and take care of other responsibilities. Taking public transportation is risky right now because of COVID-19.
I’m originally from Ferndale, Michigan. After being homeless for a while, I was able to find permanent housing with help from Lighthouse and I’ve lived in Pontiac, Michigan for about four years. My family members who are still around are retired. They’ve helped me out in the past, but they have to be careful with their own finances. For many years, I made auto parts, but I didn’t work for the Big Three companies.
I have a mental illness (bipolar disorder) and it sometimes gets in the way of me not always making the best choices financially. One of the things I’m working on in myself is learning the difference between an impulse and a need.
I’m changing my perspective about what it takes to live a better life. Learning how to live within my means and improving at prioritizing will help me move forward. I also would like to be useful to my family and friends. If my truck is running accurately, I can help them move things if the need comes up. Right now, I just want to stay busy and do the best I can to be a good person.
When I’m getting along with people in my life that have helped me, that gives me some happiness. Before I leave this earth, I want to live with more peace and love in my life.
