Why I'm using HandUp for rent support.

I am using HandUp to help me pay my rent so my family and I can continue to live comfortably in our home.

About me.

I currently live in Hazel Park, MI. I've worked as a retail merchandiser for multiple companies in the past, and I take care of my three youngest children. I enjoy spending time with my children, and I'm active in local politics.

My backstory.

A year ago I was severely injured with second degree burns on the left side of my body (my arm, neck, and stomach). The scar tissue locked my tendons. I could not work or fully function on my own without assistance. I worked as a caretaker; my job required lifting clients, housekeeping, cooking and daily care of their physical needs. I lost my job due to my injury. Losing my job caused me to fall behind on my bills. My car broke down. I could not afford the repairs.I eventually lost my home to foreclosure. I became unable to pay for the basic needs of myself and my children. We were homeless about six months before South Oakland Shelter took us in and helped us find a home. One thing I learned was to never give up. While in the shelter I went to physical therapy to build my strength. I actively looked for housing and employment. I was housed just days before Christmas last year. After becoming housed I obtained a used vehicle in April that allowed me to go back to work. Recently my vehicle broke down and it has prevented me from continuing at my job, as private transportation is a significant requirement of my position. Due to this challenge, I have fallen behind on my rent and utility bills and my current income simply can not cover these costs until I find another job.

My goals, moving forward.

I strive every day to maintain a stable home for my family. My ultimate goal is to develop financial stability for my children. My primary focus at this time is to find stable employment, and to creatively budget to ensure that my rent and all utilities are paid in a timely fashion. At this time I simply need the assistance to help me catch up so I can balance these payments moving forward. Thank you in advance for your support.
