We were able to enter into our own home, and now we're working with a community organization to apply for an assistance program in July that will help my family a lot. I've been using my fixed income to balance my families finances, but we could use assistance for keeping up with rent while connecting to this program. I'm feeling confident that we can get through this, but could use a little support in the short term.
I am a 37 year old woman with two children. I was born in Garden city, MI and I have lived in Detroit most of my life. I am close with my family but they’re unable to help me out. I went to
cosmetology school and I have been self-employed ever since I was in school. Because I am self- employed when the pandemic hit that made things hard.
:I was in prison for 5 years, when I returned home, I lost everything. I was staying with a friend but her living situation was getting scarce and I left her home because there wasn’t room for me. I have been in and out of jail all my life and for the first time I am trying to do the right thing. I have 4 children that I don’t have custody of. I got a job right out of prison and I have been working and trying to help the mother of my children out. I must drive to work sometimes even though I don’t have a license and I don’t want to get in trouble again. I want to live free of worry. . I have been self-employed since last year, when covid hit that took away my employment and we have been homeless since September.
My goals moving forward are being able to get back to working which will help me get a house for myself and my children. And ultimately I hope I can open my own salon.
I am very driven and I will not let this stop me. My happiest moments is being able to put a smile on my children face, and being able to provide for them.
