Why I'm using HandUp for a washer and dryer.

I am a single mother of 5 children. Trying to keep up with the laundry has always been a challenge. Unfortunately, our washer and dryer stopped working. I am trying to raise money to purchase a used washer and dryer so my children have clean clothes to wear.

About me.

I was born and raised in the Metro Detroit area. I've worked in the industrial field for many years which has accustomed me to layoffs and budget cuts. Not only have I had an unstable work environment, but an unstable home life as well, with past domestic violence. I needed to get away from my abuser which left me and my five children homeless. I am so thankful for South Oakland Shelter, they were able to help me secure housing for my family, but I continue to struggle with finding a steady income to keep up with my bills. When unexpected expenses arise like the home repairs I am in need of, I am forced to make tough decisions for my family as I do not have savings that I can pull from to take care of the extra costs.

My goals, moving forward.

After I secure more stability for my family, I would like to go back to school. Furthering my education will allow my to find more stable employment and allow my family to thrive, not just survive from week to week.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I really enjoy reading and learning new things. I love spending time with my children doing things like bowling and playing games together. I'm very proud of my children and enjoy taking care of them and watching them grow up.
