I'm using HandUp to try to save for a used car. My apartment is kind of far away from most of my working opportunities and it is also not close to a bus line, making having my own vehicle vital to my success.
I'm a 23 year old who grew up in Royal Oak, MI. I have lived here for a total of 11 years. I was adopted and moved to Atlanta in the later part of my childhood before eventually moving back here. I've had a rough 5 years of not having a job or a place to stay, as I was homeless. Fortunately, with the help of SOS I moved into my own apartment in November of 2018 and am now working a security job. I'm excited to move forward now that I have my own place!
Both of my parents are deceased which is how I ended up being adopted. I was in a housing program for a while which required me to be on medication. While I was in this program my sister served as my payee. There was a misunderstanding between my sister and I in which she thought that I was not taking my medication and informed my housing provider. I was kicked out of the program and could not afford a new place. I was homeless, sleeping on the street or in shelters from 18 to 23.
Now that I have a place, my immediate goals are to work & be a successful security officer. I want to obtain reliable transportation, and live like a normal person.
I enjoy fishing, camping, traveling, biking, & gaming.
I'm raising money for basic needs so I can get a mini fridge to keep my diabetes medication.
