Why I'm using HandUp for a security deposit.

I have an opportunity to enter into a program that will assist me with my housing and also give me an opportunity to finish my degree. I am raising money for a security deposit so I can enter into a new home and start in this program. We've saved up money, but are a little short after experiencing financial struggles during the pandemic.

About me.

My name is Tiara. I am 20 years old and I am from Detroit, MI. I am married and have three amazing sons!

My backstory.

In 2017 me and my husband were living with his mom, she decided she wanted a smaller house, so we needed to find another place to live. At the time I was pregnant with my second child and lost the #1 supporter in my life, my brother, to gun violence. I was very depressed. I started to move around to different family members homes, but my family started to mistreat me because I was having my second child at 19. Over this time I lived with several family members, but was unable to live anywhere long term. I went months without any money to support my family and we had to sleep in our car for weeks, until we ended up at South Oakland Shelter. After the shelter we were able to find our new home and are looking to continue building our life.

My goals, moving forward.

I plan on going back to Medical Assistant school in 2021. I want to be successful and provide for my family. My Husband is currently helping a sick family member and plans to join the Navy after he is able to assist with this.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I love spending time with my three little boys and my husband. I also going to church and helping others when I am able to. My proudest in my life has been starting school and I look forward to completing my degree as soon as possible.
