Carl's Fundraiser raised $0 on HandUp!
My wife and I (33yr old) were hit really hard by the impact of covid and lost our employment in the food and beverage industry and accordingly after the stay of evictions was over found ourselves on the streets with very little idea of how to move forward. Hindsight is 50/50 but we didn't want to reach out for the unemployment grants because we were unsure if we would be approved and figured we could live off our savings until we found more work. When we struggled but eventually found work we were so behind on bills we were slighted foreviction once the moratorium ended and found ourselves on the street for the first time.
Now i may be a little over protective as I know my wife's tough as nails and can handle herself but I worry immensely about her being by herself without a safe place to be while im at work. We believe she is undiagnosed asperbergers or at the very least on the spectrum and because of this and having a huge heart she tends to want to try and help others in situations most would shy away from.
Because of all this i havent been able to find any work that can accommodate a safe place for my wife during work hours and we haven't had a chance to get a leg up and save enough to get back into a real place.
We are both very well spoken, intelligent and caring individuals with so much to give, we have just hit a truly rough patch in life and don't have the outside support to help us through this.
The both of us have our bachelor's (her in psychology and mine in middle childhood education) and spent the majority of our working career with all types of people - Chelsea doing social work, running an in home daycare, and working as a treatment provider in inpatient; myself as a teacher or assistant in classrooms ranging from prek to the 6th grade with a focus on at risk youth and working in harder disciplinary and mental health classrooms. Once we find stable housing I know we can find work to sustain it. We're both ready to return to employment and have many ideas for side work/businesses that will help supplement our incomes.
So I've found your program and would love to become involved and try to raise money for us to find stable housing - whether it be an apartment/house/trailer/rv WE DONT CARE. I just want safe housing that we can finally call our own again so that we can both get back to working and being beneficial members of society.
Depending on how much can be raised we will decide on what route we will take. Whether it's applying donations to app fees, security, first and last, or towards the purchase of a used rv and lot fees to store it somewhere safe with hookups that allows us to remain safe and housed appropriately we just desperately miss the security and stability of calling something home.
Thank you so much for taking the time.
