My name is Cleaveland Caldwell. I am 67 year old African American male. I was born in Alabama . I moved to Detroit at the early age of 2 years old. Since then , I have resided within the city of Detroit. I love to play chess and take joy in bike riding around the city. With permanent housing it will help me become an asset to my community and my family.
I have lived in the city since two years of age. I currently do not work but in the past I worked for an origination called neighborhood service organization where I help the homeless receive immediate care such as warm clothes, bedding and anything else they need in order to survive.
The cause for my homelessness was a downward battle for about 15-20 year. It all started when I injured my leg, I have a condition called, after that my eyesight started decreasing. Eventually my situation led to depression. I was given prescription medicine to help cope with my condition until they took away my prescription so I started finding that replacement drugs on the streets. This eventually led to my homelessness.
I've been homeless for around 4 years now. I am finally on an upward path and I am seeking to better myself. I started receiving treatment for my homelessness and after a month of treatment they referred me to Community and Home Support where they currently help me raise the funding for myself to allow me to get back on my feet so I can continue my desire to give back to the community.
After receiving a stable home and caring for myself I am determined to pass along that help and support to others in need. I want to be able to make a difference in the community and be that support by giving advice to others, allowing them to stay in my home and offering them immediate care such as warm clothes and food.
I truly enjoy making a difference in people lives. My proudest moment is when I am able to inspire and motivate other by sharing my testimony. If I were to give advice to others in my situation I would tell them not to give up and allow them to see the light and find hope so they can have the desire to help themselves. I truly appreciate all the love and support. This process has been motivational for me to spread love and support so we can all work together in making a difference in the community.
