Why I'm using HandUp for a spontaneous emergency utility bill.

*UPDATE: I just received a letter from DTE stating that there was a mistake in my bill and they are now charging me an additional $217 on top of my normal bill due to a mistake on DTE's end. I can keep up with monthly payments but this came out of nowhere and I am not prepared or able to make this big of a payment on my fixed income while I am attending school. I ended my own homelessness and things have been going so well, but I just was not prepared for this spontaneous increase on top of my normal bill. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

I am back in school after ending my homelessness. I got all As and Bs this semester! I am going back to school to try to give back and help others that have been through what I have been through! I was homeless for years and now, I have maintained my OWN apartment for a little over 4 months! Thank you for reading!

About me.

I am originally from Hot Springs, Arkansas and I have lived in Detroit since April 1995. I have worked various jobs- my last job being at Metro Airport. I am disabled now and have been since 2009. Right now, I am enrolled as a student at Wayne County Community College in Detroit and I an studying addiction and mental health so I can make a difference in the lives of others and pay it forward.

My backstory.

Yes, I am homeless and have been for quite some time now on and off. My years of alcohol and drug abuse was the main reason, I have been in recovery successfully for 2 whole years now and am definitely on the right track now!

My goals, moving forward.

My goal is to get an apartment in a nice, safe and affordable area. I am enrolled at WCCC in Detroit to further my education in addiction studies and mental health. My goal is to get my education and a job in the field in order to be and stay self-sufficient! I am also a member of my church and I attend weekly NA & AA meetings. I have a strong support system which I am so thankful for.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I am a proud, excited and grateful mother of 3 adults and 3 precious grandchildren. They make me the happiest.
