Why I'm using HandUp for my electric bill.

I am a veteran and lived on the streets for 7 years. I was injured on the job and lost my income which also lead to me losing my house. My parents have both passed away, and I don't have any family or friends for support. Thanks to SOS, I was able to get an apartment about a year ago. I am so very grateful to be off the streets. I live a simple life and don't need or have many things. I don't have transportation or income so I mainly stay in my apartment. I have applied for SSI, but it is a long process. In the meantime, I am struggling to pay my electric bill. I try to make sure I use as little electricity as possible to keep my bills low. I could really use some help paying my current bill so my electric doesn't get shut-off.

About me.

I am from Macomb County, and I have always lived in the area. I was in the military for three years, and then I began working in manufacturing. I have worked in that field for over 20 years. Both my parents are deceased, and I don't have a support system. I am hoping to meet new people that can have a positive influence on my life.

My backstory.

I became homeless after I was laid off from my job. I was on unemployment for a while, but it eventually ran out. After I ran out of funds, I was forced onto the street because I could no longer afford to pay my rent. I have been looking for employment, but it is very hard at this time as I am not able to do much lifting or manual labor anymore. I hope to keep striving to get back on my feet and gain my independence back through SOS and the program they have set before me.

My goals, moving forward.

The next step in my journey is to find a well paying job that I am able to do with my physical limitations.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

I love people and being able to be a helping hand in society. I look for the positive things in life and always strive to be the best person I can possibly be. Being able to have my own housing and provide for my basic needs would make me happiest. Living on the streets was very hard on me both physically and mentally. Being safe and stable will allow me to move forward with my life and enjoy it.
