I've always worked, my entire life. I have always supported myself and never asked anyone for help. Awhile back, I began suffering from symptoms of severe arthritis that not only took away my ability to work, but also interfered with much of my independence. Every joint in my body is swollen and painful. I can only walk short distances, and I require a walker or cane. I have always worked with my hands, doing woodworking. I'm coming to terms with this new way of life, and planning for a different future than the one I envisioned. I'm looking into long term solutions. However, I'm in a crisis with my past due rent right now and I have nowhere else to turn. I recently got an eviction notice. I've already sold most everything to pay my bills, including my car.
I've been living in Royal Oak for many years. I have always enjoyed my work, my friends, and my life. I worked with my hands, doing woodworking. But due to severe Gout, I'm unable to work. I'm being evicted and really have run out of options at this point. I did not think this would be my situation as a healthy man who worked my whole life.
I'm not homeless. But that possibility is becoming very real right now. I lost my source of income due to illness, and I have not been able to make ends meet. I'm desperate for help to pay my rent so I won't be evicted. I'm working with some people who are trying to help me find long term solutions to my current situation and I'm very grateful.
I hope to improve my overall health so that my symptoms will not be as severe. I have already drastically changed my diet and my overall health habits. i would like to be able to work part time and remain active. I don't want this to be the new normal.
I have many interests including cooking and music. I enjoy laughing, time with friends and right now I really find that getting my independence back would make me happiest.
