Hello HandUp Community,
I got an infection in my toe that spread, and they've had to amputate my leg. Now I am permanently in a wheelchair. I've been in the hospital several times in the past 6 months. It's hard for me because I always worked, but now have to live on a subsidized income due to my disability.
I just recently moved into housing but I'm struggling to hold on to it! My Medi-Cal coverage was just changed and I now have $300+ of medical expenses per month. I'm trying to keep my head above water and maintain but it's difficult because I'm unable to work due to my disability.
Anything that you can help would be so appreciated! Thank you so much to the generous HandUp community, you are my lifeline!
I am from Toledo, OH. I moved here because my mother passed away and it was too painful to stay there. I go to the hospital for treatment of my diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure. I also have a rare disease called Sarcoidosis, a systemic inflammatory disease that can affect any organ in body and become a severe rash all over. I take multiple medications for each condition. I am also disabled and cannot work at this time. I am waiting on a decision for SSI benefits.
I did have housing but I needed to go see my son on the east coast, I thought I would travel to see some other friends and maybe end up staying out that way, so I gave up my housing. I didn't end up staying and I'm now back here in SF with no housing.
I need help with food and groceries since I am unable to work. I appreciate everything you have already given me and thank you for any future donations you can help me with.
