Why I'm using HandUp for my basic needs.

Hello Handup Community,

I'm using HandUp because I'm unable to catch up on health bills and general bills. I'm legally blind and looking for work but COVID is making that very difficult. I am budgeting my money for my rent and food, but my SSI has changed since I am now in a new state. I am really worried about my hospital bills right now. If I don't pay my bills they are starting to deny me the services I really need the most. I have a few general home bills as well but the hospital bills are my main concern right now because I have a lot of health concerns right now. I am hoping that Social Security will kick in to provide me extra money in the next few months but with COVID things are taking a bit slower. The extra money will help me in the future but right now I need to continue seeing my doctor and I can not with the bills adding up.

I've had four surgeries in the past year, on my hand, on my eye, and had a life saving surgery to where I almost died. I'm taking care of my health as best as I can but with bills adding up I will be denied services soon. Thank you so much for your life-saving support.

About me.

I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. I came to San Francisco in 2000.

My backstory.

In October 2014, I moved to Sacramento to get away from the drug scene where I lived. I don't use drugs but the people in my building did and I wanted to be in a clean environment. It was nice and quiet there but it was too far from the services I needed, such as medical and psychiatric care. I had to return to San Francisco to be connected to services.

My goals, moving forward.

I am not able to work at the moment due to my medical and psychiatric conditions. Once I get back on my feet, I'd like to get back into trucking, like I used to do. The most boring thing in the world is to retire. I was so much at peace when I was working. I used to drive from California to New York and other long distances. I loved it.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

Driving the truck is what makes me happiest like I did when I worked as a truck driver.
