I am fundraising for tuition and book fees for my last year of college. I am middle-aged and in my last year of college, trying to finish my Bachelor's degree for a BS in Business. Because I have taken longer to complete school, I am no longer eligible for any grants (Pell Grant, University Grant, or any other). It is quite scary for me that I have been out of the workforce for many years, am over half a century old, have run out of savings, and have accrued a great amount of financial aid loan debt. I hope to graduate next spring with a Bachelors of Science in Business.
I am a first generation Asian American, was born and raised in San Francisco, and have never left. I have worked as a nurse's aide for much of my life until my license expired (and then I didn't renew in time).
My school and work history has been checkered due to having depression and anxiety problems that arose from growing up in an abusive household. It has taken my entire life so far to work through trauma, and I still have some issues and deficits. It has taken me a lot of tries to get to this point in school, but I am not going to give up. I'm pretty bright, but have extra challenges, and the learning curve seems to be very steep for me since I'm very late in adopting technology and have to constantly overcome feeling intimidated. Although my situation might seem somewhat bleak to me, re-entering the workforce this late in life, I have to move forth in a positive manner. Although I have some deficits, I have something to offer.
My goal is to get a Bachelor's degree, and to be gainfully employed and self-sufficient. I will be the first person in my family to have a Bachelor's degree.
