Why I'm using HandUp for food and personal hygiene items.

I am fundraising for food and personal hygiene items because I live in a shelter and the food there often doesn't agree with my system. I need hygiene items like laundry detergent to be able to wash my clothes and stay clean.

** NOTE TO DONORS: We value your donations, and respect your intention to support people in need with their specific fundraising goals. On occasion, the immediate needs or an emergency may arise, and a Participant might require support in another way for safety, health, housing, or employment. As such, your donation may be used for an immediate basic need not mentioned in the above goal, such as groceries, health costs, or housing support. Any changes will always be approved in advance by PHC Staff. We will provide up to date information on how these funds are being used through an update on HandUp. By making a donation to this campaign, you are confirming your approval of this potential change. If you have any questions, or do not wish that your donation be used for any alternative goals, please contact PHC staff directly.

We greatly appreciate your support to our Participants!

About me.

I am from Gastonia, North Carolina. I moved here in 1983. I moved out here to be with my mother but she has since passed and is in heaven. I came for Thanksgiving dinner and I never left. I love playing Bingo, I love traveling, I love going to museums, I love plays and I love art. I love the finer things in life, which I can't afford. But I love food, the beach, and music.

My backstory.

I was living with a domestic partner who was abusive to me. We shared rent at the place we lived in. When he left in 2017, I couldn't afford paying double the rent. I am very happy that I am out of that abusive situation but it has been very challenging to be without housing.

My goals, moving forward.

I have a granddaughter whom I call "Little Me" because she reminds me too much of myself when I was her age. She's only four years old. I want to spend time with her but I need to have a place to bring her to. She's my first and only grandchild. When I was so deep in my addiction, I had her father. And now I can choose to do the things I want to do. I want to have a second chance so I can be there for her. I need to be role model.

I would like to go back to work once I get my own place. I'll need to have dental work done in order to be ready for the workforce. I need to get some clothing as well.

Other things I'd like to share about myself.

"Little Me", my granddaughter, makes me happy.
